Tash Barsby

Deputy Editorial Director

Formerly Penguin Random House

An Acclaimed Editor

Previously Commissioning Editor at Penguin Random House

Before joining The Novelry, Tash Barsby was a Commissioning Editor at Transworld Publishers, a division of Penguin Random House, home to authors including Kate Atkinson, Dan Brown, Bill Bryson, Lee Child, Richard Dawkins, Paula Hawkins, Rachel Joyce and Sophie Kinsella.

Tash began her career at Hachette Children’s Books with experience at Vintage Books, Pan Macmillan and Simon & Schuster before moving to Penguin Random House. Starting in the copy-editorial department, Tash rose to Commissioning Editor in the commercial fiction team, working across bestselling brand authors such as Shari Lapena, Fiona Barton, Lesley Kara and Tess Gerritsen, as well as building her own list.

She published the debut thriller from Sarah Pearse, The Sanatorium, which was an instant Sunday Times and New York Times bestseller, and a Reese Witherspoon Book Club pick. She is also proud to have published Emma Curtis, A A Dhand, Andrea Mara, Lauren North, Rebecca Reid and Bloody Scotland-prize winner Deborah Masson. Tash has experience editing general commercial fiction, historical fiction, and crime and thrillers.

In her time at Penguin Random House, Tash also enjoyed giving editorial advice to aspiring authors as a mentor, an experience that taught her a huge amount about discovering raw talent. Tash considers it a privilege to be trusted with an author’s work and loves nothing more than helping an author get their story fully realised on the page. With her keen eye for both detail and narrative cohesion, she aims to make the editing process a wholly collaborative, enjoyable and enriching experience. She provides hands-on help to make manuscripts magnificent.
