Sorcha Rose was an Editor at Hodder & Stoughton, a division of Hachette and home to authors including John Grisham, Stephen King, B.A. Paris, Vaseem Khan, and Lucy Score. After interning in publishing at Legend Press and HarperCollins, Sorcha eventually worked directly with bestselling authors such as John Grisham, Peter Robinson, and Sophie Hannah, as well as on Erin Kelly’s Sunday Times bestseller The Skeleton Key and Will Dean’s The Last Thing to Burn (shortlisted for the Theakston Crime Novel of the Year, longlisted for the CWA Gold Dagger). Sorcha specialized in crime and thriller and edited Rachelle Atalla (The Pharmacist, shortlisted for Scottish Fiction Book of the Year) as well as Catriona McPherson, Patricia Marques, Mira V. Shah, Fiona Sherlock, Annie Hartnett, and Kylie Ladd. As an acquiring editor, Sorcha gained great insight into what literary agents, commissioning editors, and the current commercial market are looking for. Sorcha was a key organizer of Hachette’s Grow Your Story program, which helped writers from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic backgrounds gain access to the world of publishing. She has a BA in English Literature from the University of Sheffield.

During her years at Hodder & Stoughton, Sorcha worked with their bestselling and biggest brand authors such as John Grisham, Peter Robinson and Sophie Hannah. Sorcha also worked closely on Sunday Times bestseller The Skeleton Key by Erin Kelly, and Will Dean’s The Last Thing to Burn, which was shortlisted for the Theakston Crime Novel of the Year and longlisted for the CWA Gold Dagger. Gaining experience working across a varied commercial fiction list, Sorcha became specialized in the crime and thriller genre, and is proud to have been the editor for Rachelle Atalla, whose debut The Pharmacist was shortlisted for the Scottish Fiction Book of the Year, as well as Catriona McPherson, Patricia Marques, Mira V. Shah, and Fiona Sherlock. She has also worked with contemporary women’s fiction authors such as Holly Bourne, Annie Hartnett and Kylie Ladd.
Sorcha is dedicated to increasing inclusion within publishing and ensuring all stories are being told. She was a key organizer of the Hachette Grow Your Story program, which looks to help new writers from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds understand and gain access to the world of publishing.
As an editor, Sorcha understands the most important skills are being collaborative and compassionate. She is passionate about working with writers to create something distinct and exciting that writers will be proud of. As an acquiring editor, Sorcha spent hours reading submissions from literary agents and has gained an insight into what agents, commissioning editors and the current commercial market are looking for in a novel. From the very beginning of Sorcha’s career, she has loved editing and shaping stories, and ensuring she is tailoring the editorial process to each specific author and the unique story they have to tell.
